![]() That's basically what you're paying for - on top of the Sphere Storage. PreSonus' content is (in many cases) quite old and it simply not good enough to garner a subscription.Ĭontent Packs, Notion Sound Libraries (it's stupid that they haven't moved Notion to Presence XT, and Notion is full of bugs anyways) and Fat Channel Plug-Ins. There is better out there, and for very reasonable prices, even. I have disposable income, and I'd still never buy that stuff. The content is not worth a subscription, IMHO. That's about $235 for Studio One 5 Pro + Notion 6. Over the holidays, you could get that cross grade for $169 Tax-Free off Best Service. You can cross grade to Studio One Pro from Notion. Notion was on Amazon for $65 a few months ago. You can often get this DAW for fairly cheap, especially if you own any DAW you can cross grade from. Sphere is a bad deal because PreSonus has too many sales on Studio One. If you aren't recording with a microphone you may not ever really need to upgrade to pro. There are a few other features of course but Melodyne is the stand out feature IMHO. Artist is Melodyne for editing vocals or other recorded audio like a guitar or violin. Then wait for the sale on upgrading Artist to Pro. I think the best way to get into Studio One is to buy an Audiobox for $100 which includes Studio One Artist ($100 value) + 6Gb of 3rd party content as well as an Audio Interface. Spend full price in installments and get to use it now, or wait 6 months for the sale? How much is 6 extra months of using the software worth to you? For most people 6 months is about how long it takes to really know a particular software. This is somewhat offset by you getting to use full versions of software while paying it off so it's a trade off. The other downside to these types of subscriptions is you don't get to take advantage of sales. Some companies like Kilohearts, Melda, and Splice are more like rent/lease to own. I think you should earn credits towards outright owning the software. I'm not a fan of cloud only type subscriptions. I haven't subscribed but I can't find a compelling reason to. Studio One is awesome software, I don’t care for Presonus as a company though. Complete nightmare I just ended up buying the upgrade from 4, I didn’t use the extras anyway. It took 2 months before I got my money back. Presonus or whoever takes care of the subscription service fought my dispute. So I disputed the charges with my bank, only the extra charges I made it clear that 2 of the 5 charges were legitimate. That’s $45 extra I was charged in two months, and I never got a response from Presonus support from the first time. I had pretty much forgot about the first time until it happened the second time. I checked my account and this time I was charged three times. I signed into my account again and made my payment. Third month, again my subscription just stopped and I got the card declined message again. I contacted Presonus support and didn’t think much more of it. I noticed the next day I was charged twice. I signed into my Presonus account and manually made the payment and everything went through. The second month my subscription stopped and said my card declined the charge, it’s my bank debit card and there was no reason for it to decline. My personal experience, the first month everything was great. Also - quite big community with training sessions, templates, etc.Īll other scenarious - buy on sales or normally if you can't wait. You are fan of SO and you need to have (and use) absolutely everything from them - this will be cheapest way I think rather buying everything separately. You can pause if you want, cancel your subscription, etc.ģ. ![]() I know - sounds weird :) but sometimes 15 eur per month is easier than to accumulate full amount needed with various reasons behind. You want to try for a little bit longer time than a trial and not yet decided (that is me currently). you get notation and all addons/instruments/effects they have and will release in those 6 years.ġ. Option 2: always wait for discounts (matter to change case by case): upgrade to new version: 150 eur x 2 times = 300 eur.I did little research on discounts, I may be little bit off. Do you need them - that is different question. I am not evaluating Notation and addons like FAT effects - I believe you have it only with sphere. I am taking 6 years of newest version usage - just to round up to 2 upgrades each second year. new version comes out every second year (it is hard to define standard frequency). I will use prices I see in my location - it may vary in currency, location. So that should be easier if we speak numbers. Ok, so the question "is it worth it" mainly suggests that you want to evaluate financials of both cases.
